How to draw and export your signature

1. Sign inside the dashed box using your mouse, trackpad, or a finger on a touchscreen. On a phone, turn the device sideways: the extra width makes for a much more natural stroke.
2. Not happy with it? Click Clear and start over. Most people need three or four attempts, and that is normal; a trackpad is not a pen.
3. Adjust pen width (1 to 8 pixels) and ink color before drawing if you want something other than the default near-black.
4. Click Download PNG. The button stays disabled until you have actually drawn something.

A worked example: signing a lease PDF

Say your landlord emails a lease and asks you to sign and return it. Draw your signature here with the pen at width 3, download signature.png, then open the lease in any PDF editor or even Preview on a Mac and place the image over the signature line. Because the exported PNG has a fully transparent background, it sits on the document like ink rather than a white sticker: the lines, shading, and text underneath stay visible around your strokes. The canvas exports at 700 by 240 pixels, which scales down cleanly to a typical signature line. One drawing, and you can reuse the same file for every document that accepts an image signature.

The transparency trick

The drawing surface looks white while you sign, but that white is only page styling; the canvas itself is transparent, and your strokes are the only pixels in it. That is the whole reason this tool exists, because a signature photographed on paper or drawn on a white canvas has to be laboriously background-removed before it looks right on a document. Strokes are rendered with round caps and joins, so line ends and direction changes look like a felt-tip pen rather than a marker with square corners. Coordinates are mapped from your screen to the canvas resolution, so drawing on a small phone screen still exports at the full 700 pixel width. Nothing is uploaded at any point; the signature lives in your browser tab until you download it, and closing the tab destroys it.

Honest limitations

There is no undo, only Clear, so a wobble at the end of an otherwise good attempt means starting again. Keep attempts short and fast; deliberate slow drawing looks worse, not better. The tool has no pressure sensitivity, so a stylus on an iPad draws the same line whether you press hard or soft, and there is no smoothing pass, meaning what you draw is exactly what exports. Finally, be clear about what this is: an image of a signature, not an e-signature service. It carries no identity verification, timestamp, or audit trail, so for contracts that legally require verified e-signing, use a dedicated platform and keep this tool for the everyday sign-and-send documents that make up most of real life.
