How to make a meme

1. Drop any image onto the box or click to browse. The preview appears immediately with the placeholder captions already applied.
2. Type your top and bottom text. Both are rendered in uppercase automatically, in the classic heavy Impact style with a black outline, and the preview updates on every keystroke.
3. Adjust the text size slider if a long caption crowds the image; it scales the type relative to the image width.
4. Click Download meme. You get a PNG at the image's full original resolution, with no watermark.

A worked example

Drop a photo of your dog staring at an empty food bowl. Type when you finish dinner in the top field and and act like you never ate in the bottom. The generator uppercases both, centers the top line just below the top edge and anchors the bottom line just above the bottom edge, exactly where thirty years of meme convention says they belong. If a caption is too long for one line, it wraps automatically into multiple centered lines, with the bottom block growing upward so it never runs off the image. The download is meme.png at your photo's native resolution: a 4000 pixel photo yields a 4000 pixel meme, which matters if it might get cropped or zoomed later.

The details that make it look right

Meme text is white fill over a black stroke, and the stroke is drawn first so the outline sits behind the letters rather than eating into them; the stroke weight also scales with the font size, at roughly one fourteenth of the letter height, so small text does not drown in outline and huge text does not look thin. Font size is proportional to image width rather than fixed, meaning your captions occupy the same visual share of a phone screenshot and a wall-sized photo. Line joins are rounded to avoid the spiky corners naive stroked text produces on letters like M and W. Everything renders on a canvas in your browser and the image never leaves your device, which is the correct architecture for the inside jokes and group-chat material this tool mostly exists for.

Honest limitations

This is deliberately the classic two-caption format: no extra text boxes in the middle, no draggable positioning, no color options, and no font choices beyond the Impact-style stack. If your system lacks Impact, the browser falls back to Arial Black, which reads nearly the same at meme sizes. Text is always uppercased, always centered, always white on black outline; lowercase ironic-style memes are not on the menu. There is no built-in template library either, so bring your own image, whether saved from the internet or shot on your phone. And the output is PNG only, which is the right call for text-over-image sharpness but produces larger files than JPEG; run the result through the image compressor here if a platform complains about size.
